Electric air taxis are edging closer to everyday travel. On February 25, 2026, Uber and Joby Aviation revealed Uber Air, a service that will allow riders to book all electric air taxi flights directly inside the Uber app. The first passenger flights are expected to begin in Dubai later this year.

Joby’s aircraft carries four passengers and reaches speeds of up to 200 mph. It can travel about 100 miles on a single charge, turning longer road trips into quick hops through the sky. In Dubai, four vertiports will link major destinations such as the international airport, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Mall. A drive that can take 45 minutes in traffic could drop to about 12 minutes by air.

The project arrives with serious financial backing. Joby reports $1.4 billion in liquidity, including a major $894 million strategic investment from Toyota, the largest single stake in the eVTOL sector so far. After the announcement, investment firm H.C. Wainwright upgraded Joby’s stock to a Buy rating with an $18 target, pointing to progress in aircraft certification and growing confidence in the market.

The partnership between Uber and Joby has been years in the making. Uber invested $50 million in Joby in 2020 and later handed over its Elevate aerial ride hailing program along with engineers and planners. That team helped build the software platform now powering Uber Air, connecting the aircraft network to Uber’s more than 200 million monthly users.

Dubai became the launch city largely because regulators moved quickly. Joby also secured an exclusive six year operating agreement with the city’s Roads and Transport Authority, giving it a strong early foothold. While U.S. certification is still underway, the company has already logged more than 50,000 miles of testing and entered the final stage of regulatory review.

If the rollout works, the effects could ripple across crowded cities. Airport transfers, daily commutes, and tourist travel may all shift once flying across town becomes a bookable option. After years of prototypes and promises, electric urban flight is finally preparing for its first real passengers.
